    The Prisoner’s Dilemma

    U-M Professor Robert Axelrod went beyond the Prisoner’s Dilemma to analyze the evolution of cooperative strategies in a variety of circumstances, with special attention to strategies for coping with error, misunderstanding and “noise.” These findings allowed him and U-M evolutionary biologist William D. Hamilton to develop insights on the evolution of cooperation in the relations of fish, birds, and apes.
